ok, i cannot get an answer from anyone.

does anyone use Gear oil in their IPS drives other than Volvo Penta?

If i as a Volvo Penta mechanic he says don't ever use anything other than Volvo Penta Gear Oil.
If i ask a regular mechanic he says i can use Amsoil or Mobil One!

Please, if anyone has an answer please chime in.

Pretty tired of getting the run around and tired of paying the high price.

Finding it is listed as 75W90 full synthetic GL5

This is info just from threads read but have no first had knowledge

One said Mobile 1 can be used if VP stuff is not available

Most say that the IPS cost so much they would only use VP stuff. On the other had some have needed to be repaired with less then 400 hours. Bob the oil guy website has a thread but nothing exact. I did do a lot of reading, and do understand the question of the VP stuff in the $17 a quart

I. Use Amsoil. Last time I check Volvo did not own a refinery or chemical plant. As long as it meets the specs your good. They just put a manufactures oil in their labels

So I have been struggling with this and I am changing to Amsoil this year....big reason is a few folks on this forum that know their stuff swear by it....AND THEN friend of mine bought a new boat with with same pods we have (Sabre) - and the VERY REPUTABLE dealer uses Amsoil and they claim they still have the factory warranty because it meets the specs, and that is all that matters for factory warranty. I AM SOLD!!

Ok guys I'd do Amsoil, but will it be for sure good under warranty? I have one pod that is brand new as of last July (Formula paid for it).

I LOVE Amsoil and use it in a bunch of my other toys. So what's the part number your using?
