Trim piece/underside of shifters

Thinking about how to improve this, since I have other panels off for winter.

There is a thin piece of plastic (Lexan?) around the base of the shifter. I think these shifters have a smaller base plate than the factory ones did.

Previous owner did an okay-ish job of making this surround, and it looks okay I guess, but it's cracked in half and bugs me. I'm thinking to make it 'right' I'd have to fashion a new piece, maybe out of 1/4" starboard, red or white, then use a router to round the outside edge of it, and close it up a bit.

But then I'd have to disconnect ALL the cables (4) and wires (10ish) that run to this thing? because how else would you get the base plate on TOP of the thing?

I've mentally moved the parts around and if you want the base-plate (starboard or lexan) to be one piece, you have to not only fit it over the cover, but the cables/wires/etc...

Nothing's ever easy. Any other ideas?

thanks!
Actually, looking at it now, it looks like you could slide it left/right to get it under the plate, but not top / bottom.

I either need a 3D scanner, or to make a new test plate out of cardboard and see if you can install it without removing the rigging lol.
