Towing 2001 31pc

Bought a 31pc and can't wait to get it in the water to start enjoying it. What are the thoughts on towing it with a 2003 GMC 2500HD/Duramax? I know the truck has all the power I need but without being a dually, control is my concern. I sure wish I had a dually but I'm hoping this one will be enough. I'll need to get a permit to haul it and I'm not even sure if they'll allow me to tow the boat with it. Only towing about 40 miles (Michigan).

Not sure why you think you need a dually. Dual rear wheels are for high unstable loads like a truck camper.
Your truck will do just fine.

As I see it, you don't have enough truck. This year truck has max close to 12000 and the boat weights dry 11730. Add fuel, gear and a 3500 pound tri-axle trailer and even if your using a goose neck or 5th wheel trailer, you need more. Put anything in the truck like luggage and more people and your even farther out

Not to mention the issues with towing a 11 foot beam

GSENT:I don't think I necessarily need a dually but it would be nice. If for nothing else then the extra weight/stability. As they say.....Bigger is always better, right?!

AllDodge: I agree I'm pushing the limits on the weight. I frequently haul a loaded dump trailer that has exceeded 16K+ easily (as seen at the scales) and the truck has always pulled fine. Like you said, I think its the 11' width/size that has me concerned. And if/when I apply for a permit, they might just shoot me down from the start! If thats the case, I'll start looking for someone to haul it for me.

I pull a 29pc, which I think is very similar to the 31pc. I use f350, but not a dually. It pulls it great. I am even running 35" tires. I don't see need for a dually.20180426_085239.jpg
