Bought a 93 252 br end of last season that had the silent thunder blocked off and exhaust rerouted down through outdrive, i was told it was due to a previous owner getting sick of the loader exhaust.
I added captains call, replaced thru hull fittings due to flappers being missing, added hardin marine internal flappers to the fittings, and replaced all gaskets to silent thunder box.
ended up losing motor to water in engine, thinking it had to do with the high hours on motor, i replaced engine with a newer used efi mag motor.
everything was going smoothly, but this past weekend notice oil level climbing to the point i was getting oil blowing out timing area. i now have water in this motor.
Anyone have this same experience and any suggestions on correcting?

Salt or fresh water?

When you changed the engine did you change the exhaust manifolds? How old are they?

I just saw a friend's small block rust through the block in a thin area by one of the cylinders. It may not be reversion at all.

fresh water. i purchase a 454 mag motor fully drop in with 200 or so hours. all exhaust parts came with it

The boats of those years used the silent thunder box for sound effect, performance and also to keep water from the motor. The boats sit low and when stopping water could come right in. The baffles in the box kept the motor a bit safer. Where all the baffles still in place?

Assuming the 2010 motor was stock and did not have a high lift cam

Water can also get to the motor if to many folks sit on the stern when stopped. The exhaust make it to water level and it can make its way back.
