Paint removal around outdrives

So the previous owner had the bottom paint all the way up to the outdrives and I'm thinking about trying to remove the paint to create a gap between the paint and the outdrives to reduce potential electrolysis (anything to help with Bravo III's). Has anyone tackled a similar project and have any techniques for removing old paint to give me the gap i'm looking for?

just tape off whatever you want to leave paint on. pettit makes a enviro friendly stripper that should take care of it pretty easily ;)

This year I have painted the gap that was taped off with the copper free paint that I use on the drive. Beats having a ring of barnacles around the outdrive. Been using the trilux33 but now after a complete strip and repaint (corrosion removal project) I have gone to pettit vivid free (not even liquid copper in this stuff).

What are you guys using on your drives for antifouling. i have used the trilux aerosol most seasons, but now i am in salt water and need the best protection.

Is the Aerosol better then the Trilux 33 in the quart can?

I'm in Brackish and have used both Tri-lux Spray and in the Qt can. The spray works best in those hard to reach areas and the Qt can brused on with a foam brush and a very small roller (1" x 4" purchased from WalMart) works the best.

That said, I wasn't happy with last years results. I didn't use the boat much from August on. When I pulled the boat in the fall there were quite a few barnacles when in the past I barely had any.

People on the site have suggested that I change to Petit Hydrocoat which I am strongly considering this year.

My thought would be to lightly sand the entire drive. Spray the hard to reach areas with the Tri-lux and brush on the Petit. Not sure if it is the best plan, so I, like you are looking for suggestions/feedback.....

From what I had read on various forums I would suggest getting as much of the trilux off as you can because of its softness. Do a search here for pettit ultimate eco. A user had good success with it in your area I believe.

I think you want to use Petit Eco Ultima on the drives and Hydrocoat on the hull. I'm not sure the Hydrocoat is the best to use on Metals.
