Just purchased a Super Clean 1997 Formula 34PC. 7.4 Mercs with V-Drives. it has every option offered by Formula that year

The V-Belts are squeaking- Will replace for peace of mind

Has the Kenwood Stereo cassette with 2 amps and the remotes "entertainment package" Speaker bar in cabin and the 2 speakers in the radar arch
The Kenwood speakers at the radar arch. One sounds terrible and the others you can only feel the speaker vibrate. Found Kenwood marine speakers available.
Does anyone know if they are 6.5" or 7" rounds?

Will replace the head unit eventually with a Kenwood KMR-D765BT and the new style remotes. Does anyone know if the new stereo head units are compatible with my old wiring harness?
I sure hate to remove existing Formula factory wiring harness

Looking forward

Welcome J and congrats on your purchase! We've been really happy with our purchase decision 5 years ago on the inboards, it suits our cruising style really well. I've become pretty intimate with the workings of this model and there are many others on the board as well that can assist with many of your questions so don't hesitate to ask.

I was thinking that year model was fuel injected and had a serpentine belt but i could very well be wrong. you'd just wanna check to be sure the noise isn't from a belt driven accessory or idler pulley, and make super sure it isn't the raw water pumps/impellers. and carry spares!

You'll get lots of opinions on speakers but i doubt anyone is gonna tell you to go back with Kenwoods if you wanna improve the sound. They are 6.5" in the radar arch, the factory speaker wire is of good quality BUT it isn't cabled like you might buy it from a parts store, they are individual wires.

I changed my head unit out to a Kenwood KMR700. not sure what you mean by "compatible" but the head unit you choose may or may not plug to the factory harness. if it doesn't it should be pretty easy to wire it in though. are you gonna keep the factory amps? again, if you are trying to improve the sound quality you could do a lot better than staying with those. it all depends on what you are trying to achieve.

let us know how you decide to proceed and most of us like pictures too. Happy boating!
