New to forum. Question re fuel consumption

Thinking of purchasing a 2011 45 with 600 IPS. Would be running at 7-8 knots a lot to save fuel. Know that I’d have to open it up once in a while to work the engines. Question is…should in just buy a different boat if that’s the way I’d be operating it. Love the boat but really can’t afford to run at 25-30 knots all the time, especially on 500 nautical mile trips. Thanks in advance for your advice.

I would look for another boat, the maintenance on the IPS or even a stern drive is costly over time. Suggest looking for a inboard (straight or V drive). A troller type would be best on fuel and easiest on maintenance

My personal preference would be the 45 with the IPS. The fuel economy is way better than shafts and the docking and handling is far superior. Yes, you do have higher maintenance costs but in my opinion, I would rather have the upgrade. Volvo's only downfall is they do not have IPS certified dealers in all areas. I would recommend making sure you have someone local to perform repairs before you purchase.
