New Dash

Formula Tenn

i am considering replacing the three panels on my dash. i have some approx 3/16 aluminum that i could easily use and access to a water jet to cut out for (possibly) new gauges, radios, auto pilot, etc. i was thinking i could have it cut out and powder coated for a good durable finish. some of my gauges don't match or look so good and things are kinda looking like they've been added as an after thought. any comments or suggestions?

ARE YOU DOING COMPLETE GAUGE PACKAGES? SO MANY CHIOCES TODAY. IF YOU NEED A BIGGER SCREEN, YOU CAN MOVE STUFF AROUND TO ACOMODATE IT. THE NEW ALL IN ONE GAUGES ARE BECOMING VERY POPULAR NOW, TO SAVE SPACE. FUEL ECONOMY GAUGES ARE ALSO POPULAR LIKE FLOSCAN. DESIGNING IT CORRECTLY WOULD SEEM TO BE THE HARDEST PART. GOOD LUCK. TAKE SOME BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES FOR US ALL TO SEE.

I definitely want to see those pics. I just redid the one in my Aristocraft with mahogany and maple that turned out real well. The look would never work on my Formula though. I probably made 15full size drawings before I compromised on the one I actually built. It looks great now and I don't want to do it again.

i think the design and layout would be the hardest part too. i don't really know what is available that will work with my engines as far as gauges go. if i make new panels i could custom mount everything and make it look a little neater. i won't be tackling this anytime soon though. maybe late this year or next :-\

If I wasn't limited, I would pull all the analog equipment and go back with flush mounted digital touchscreens. I would also add a backup panel below deck in case the touchscreens went out.

that sounds interesting. i'll do a good bit of research before i tackle this project. i don't know what my factory gear will be compatible with. it's a 95 with electronic ignition. i see all the smartcraft stuff out there but i don't think it's compatible with my set up. i looked around a bit and the synchronizer gauge will be one of my problems i think. it looks like it'll be hard to match to a set of gauges. i saw a thing called accusynch but i don't think it comes with a read out. from what i can tell, you shouldn't need a read out with that system though. who makes the touch screen stuff your talking about? what is it compatible with?

Just saw this post.
The guy who owns MarineMarks is a dockmate of mine & does some pretty darn good work.
His boat was the test run when he started doing the panels. I helped him reinstall the panels & I was seriously impress by the new ones.
They panels on the Sea Rays have the illuminated wording for all of the switch functions.
I had my new panels waterjet cut from stainless steel before I had ever met Mark, wish I would have know him then.
Good luck with the panels, I would call Mark just for a quote

Here is the rework of my 93' 34PC dash. Will be adding water press gauges to the right above the stereo remote.

I have heard rumors of cracking the Samsung tabs to run as touchscreens on a NMEA system. That could be interesting if it works. If I hear any more about it, I'll post it up.
