marine Surveyors recommendations

I don't know any other than after rebuilding 2 outdrives, and replacing 2 engines myself on mine, I like to think I know more than I did 5 years ago...

looks like a nice boat, but I'd start with the basics after a water test.
I'm told the 496s are desirable engines due to their durability. Looks like closed loop cooling on them as well. Are the exhaust manifolds closed or raw water cooled?

on the trailer can you physically wiggle the drives up/down at at all? or are they solid against the gimbal housing?

when were the raw water pumps/impellers last replaced? spark plugs? engine computers read? hours? test everything that has a button. trim tabs, drives, shifting, A/C, generator, etc. last oil change?

how clean are things? windshield well attached? anything loose?

that's a good chunk of change, so I'd expect that boat to be damn near perfect at that price point... I paid about $30k for my 292, but it was in BEAT shape. (and 2 engines later is closer to 40k now).

Thanks for the reply/info sabrtooth sqrl. from what a gathered by the broker the pumps and impellers where removed and replaced a couple of months ago and the manifolds are raw water cooled (did my own research) engines and drives had fluid changed the same time the raw water pumps where done. If I ever get the chance to get down there to look at it I plan doing what you have mentioned and do oil samples and borascope the manifolds on the raw water side but the broker did state that he did not know if they had ever been replaced and are believed to be original. I plan on replacing them if I get the boat. But I just want to verify actual condition.
Thanks, Chris

Agree with Sabr. Would need to be close to a 10 for that $$. The manifolds and risers are really a maintenance item and replacing them will just save a engine if they fail. They definitely have a service life. Water pumps also maintenance item. Get a mirror and look under the engine and look for RUST. The pan, oil filter MUST look clean, no rust. Ive seen clean boats with rusty oil filters that will not come off. Pinholes in oil pans due to rust. If thats all pristine then you probably found a nice boat. Its easy to shine up a top engine but no one cleans underneath.

You know Fossil I looked at this boat about 6 months ago when It was only 25 minuets away from me in Punta Gorda fl and it was in very good condition long story short I was going to get a survey done on it and make a offer unfortunately I got busy with work and by time I had a chance to get back with the guy he had sold it and now its up for sale again 20 thousand more than what it was listed for when I looked at 6 months ago or so now at the time it did not have a trailer. Work is getting busy so I am not sure when I can get down to insp. it my self.
Thanks, Chris
