I'm looking to purchase a 1998 or newer 271 fastech.  Any recommendations?

Stock power? and how much do you want to spend?

I'd prefer no modifications to the boat. The 502 mag seems to be the most common power choice and would be fine. There are a couple of boats I'm considering with volvo penta dpx motor/drive combo, however, i'm not sure about service and parts availability . . . though from what i've read they are supposed to be very good motors/drives. Any thoughts?

Price? I'll spend what seems reasonable for the boat condition, hours, and year.

I think the Vlovo DP is a very good engine, I had it on my old boat. Served me very well, nver had issues getting service for it which I only needed for the starter and it was covered under warranty. I had all the servicing done by my Marina and hey did fine with it.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Volvo powered boat. You will probably get a better price on it with a better system.

I have a 2000 271 Fastech Freshened 502 approx 40 hours ago. New heads, Valve train. etc. Has a Wipple running 6lbs boost, XR drive, IMCO steering, Gaffrig GPS speedo.Boats runs 78 - 80.Asking 58,000 OBO, will take a trade. Jake

The Volvo with DPX drive is powerful and reliable. But you would either need to buy it dirt cheap or plan on keeping the boat nearly forever because it is a very tough sell. We bought a new 2000 353 with that power, had to almost give it away to sell it,original buyer had the same problem later.I would never trade one in unless it was really really cheap, and I would have to think long and hard to even do it. Not knocking Volvo, great product, great people, but the greatest product in the world is not worth a lot if no one will buy it. Perception is eveything.and Merc is perceived to have a lock on the regular performance boat market.Proceed with caution, and test drive it first to see if you are comfortable docking at it's 6- 8mph idle.Very cool sometimes,a dockbuster other times. My 2 cents :)

FYI Ocean Performance has a 1999/271 Fastech with a HP500. Asking 65,000. Doesn`t say anything about a trailer.

I bought my 312 from them 13 months ago and they had that boat listed then.
RJ. If your going to pull the Whipple.....Theres a guy I see everyday (in the mirror) that may be interested. ::)

if you are gonna by one with a volvo make sure you are near a dealer or service shop that can get access to the special tools needed to troubleshoot one of them.

Not going to part it out. If it sells, I`ll go bigger. If it doesn`t sell, so be it. Besides, there`s a smartass on our lake with a fountain 27 fever, that I want to dust real bad. ;D

A guy in MN was selliing a boat identical to this a couple of months ago....same year, trailer, colors. I believe he was asking 37,000.
