I began tearing down the engine that came out of the Minx, and as I originally suspected, I'd say the intake manifold gasket was leaking in the center on both sides.

The water is supposed to be outside the boat, not inside the engine.
Are you sure you didn't fill up the wrong opening with water

Good thing you caught it before there was more serious damage.

Is that cork I see on the valve cover mating area? That is pretty old stuff. Well built marine engines went to rubber in the 80's.

Neoprene actually. A lot of people will tell you that cork makes a better seal, but I like neoprene, because it holds up better when you have the valve covers off and on more often.

I agree. Cork is for bulletin boards and that is not the best use for it either maybe a wine bottle ;D ;D

I would use a big wad of silicone before cork! ;D ;D

I used Fel-Pro neoprene gaskets on the valve covers and the oil pan. So far they have worked great.

Wouldn't think about using cork anymore.
Cuda, did you find any water in the oil pan?
