Halon fire suppression system

The USCG Auxiliary suggests that it should be done annually.

I am in a small yacht club were there are approx 12 boats with Halon Type systems. We are going to contact a local Fire Extinguisher Company to see if they can come and do all of ours at the same time (at hopefully a group discount) prior to the USCG Auxiliary coming for our annual inspections. I will revert with the cost per boat once we get the 411

this is supposed to be pretty simple to do yourself. all you have to do is remove the cylinder and weigh it. it should be within a couple of ounces of the weight listed on the label. if it isn't, it needs to be recharged.

have ya checked that Halon cylinder yet?? there is a light on the port side of my dash that says Halon System ready. It ain't on. anybody know what i need to look for? i'm not familiar with how that system works.

I have the exact same problem on my 2007 31PC. The little green light on my console is out but all looks well below deck. Where do I go from here????

I wouldn't put alot of faith in that little green light ... it was on in my last Formula even when the tank was in the garage. It's on in my present Formula too, at least with this one the tank is in the boat !!!

To the top..... So whats the deal with these on board systems? I've got one on my 2000 260ss and don't think it's ever been gone through and wondering who/how/whats needed to make sure it's in working order? Some times my light is off for about 5-10 minutes at first run of a season, but then lights up and typically will continue being green from that point on until it sits again for a while then it take a bit of time for it to light up green again.

I just want to know 100% it's going to work if it's ever needed.... So anyone got some input on this topic they can share?

Here in Clearwater FL I was quoted $250 (ouch) for an inspection and refill if necessary. However if a few boats were done together this cost could be spread between owners at the same marina.

I know they are very expensive to refill (I think you actually have to buy a new one) but you can have them inspected for a few dollars. Take it off and bring it to a fire extinguisher company. They will weigh it and if it's the proper weight you are all set. I was quoted around $450 to replace mine.

So far as I know, no one is allowed to refill halon, its ozone depleting substance. If it needs refilled, it gets replaced with CO2, takes a larger bottle

I have just purchased a 2005 40 PC.

I am trying to remove the bottle to take in and have it weighed. I disconnected the sensor and have loosed the 2 large automotive bands- but I cannot get the tank to budge?

It's almost like the bracket is also fastened to the back of the tank? I have looked through my aft access, but am scratching my head. Assistance please
