Cell Phone Amps/Boosters

We have cell phone service problems in certain areas of our lake (Dale Hollow Lake-Tenn) & understand that adding a wireless repeater system w/ external antenna & inside repeater antenna "may" help enhance service at our lake. Has anyone installed one of these. If so...we'd like to have some additional conversation.

I've never heard of such , but would also be interested. I boat on the northern Chesapeake bay and also have spotty service.

Just learned about all this. Here's just what the doctor ordered:

You'll need the amp power supply (small) and cell band antenna too. However, if you don't want an additional antenna on top of your arch, your existing VHF antenna can be replaced with one which is dual purpose.... for both VHF and Cell. Several companies make these. Here's an example from the same manufacturer as the amp above..... http://www.digitalantenna.com/prods/cellamfmantenna.html Antennas such as these have connections for your VHF radio as well as separate connections for the Cell amp. Install a jack such as this http://www.digitalantenna.com/prods/cables_dashmount.html from the amp to the location of your choice to plug your phone into, and you are in business.

Properly installed, this setup is very effective for amplifying your laptop's wireless broadband card as well, allowing an internet connection when not normally in range of a cell tower or wifi.

Not yet. I have seen it in action though, and it works very well. I'll probably do it in the off season, as I'm planning the addition of Raymarine's AIS-500 over the winter as well. There's lots of Freighters, Cruise Ships, Navy Vessels, and work boats in my area, and if I'm ever dead in the water in a shipping channel, I'll consider this a plus.
