Cabin carpet - Stained or Sun Faded?

Looking for any experienced opinions. I bought a new to me 2006 370ss, and the boat is pretty clean but the cabin carpet is a completely different color under the clear plastic mat vs. the rest of the carpet. My question is if this is something that a good carpet shamp/cleaner can fix. The other opinion I’ve heard is that the the carpet is sun faded or something and no amount of cleaning will make it look “like new”. All the carpet looks the same color, except for the carpet that was under the clear plastic mat.

Anyone else had a similar looking carpet and had it cleaned? Curious to hear the results.... also any advice on how best to clean it.

Thanks in advance,

I can't tell exactly where your picture was taken, but in my hunt for an 31-35 foot SS last year (finally settled on a relatively new 2015 310SS), I found several where the cabin (not cockpit) carpet was stained in the area of the stairs. In each instance, I concluded that the problem was caused an overflowing shower sump that pretty much permanently stained the carpet around the sump. And those stains then led me to discover a bunch of deferred (or missing) maintenance in the boat, which gave me pause in terms of making an offer.

I have the same problem in my 06 31PC, what happens is the plastic stains the carpet. I am not sure if it gets a little moisture under the plastic and the grey in the plastic gets into the carpet. I have had mine cleaned and it looks better but still won’t come out. I am replacing the carpet, I have seen a lot of 05-08 Formula’s with the same problem. Good luck!

I realize this is an old string, however for future visitors with this issue. We have a 2005 370ss, same color carpet, same problem. We've had it professionally cleaned and it looks better but doesn't change the color of course; stays that same. Formula31PC above is "spot on" so to speak... ;)
