Bravo 2. What to maintain

So l am new to bravo 2. Was told they were serviced last year for around $3500. Will look at work order to see what was done but after reading so many bravo 3 maintenance horror stories curious what i should look out for with 2's.

Been told and read they are pretty bullet proof. Just would like to keep it that way and avoid costly explosions.

Yikes, $3,500 maintenance on a single drive? What did they do, buy a reman? Even with two drives that's a lot of money unless something was broken.

Drain oil and look to see if f it's milky. If so that's indicative of water intrusion, which usually means the seals need to be replaced.

Pull the prop and grease the shaft.

You could also pull the drive and inspect the bellows, linkages, engine alignment and grease everything.

Clean and paint the drive as needed. Replace the zincs if needed.

Just because a lot of money gets spent doesn't mean much . . . too many unknowns . . .

Bravo drives (1,2,3) are pretty much bullet proof. The thing with the Bravo 3's is the extra stainless steel (2 propellers) requires more anode protection.

One thing to watch out for on all 3 models is 'Bravoitis' which causes an water intake restriction. Happens after about 15-20 years. . . . maybe a bit less in salt water.

Its twins. Familiar with all the bravoitis on 3's.

Just scares me reading on costly drive repairs from simple bad seals wiping out gear sets.

As well these drive have extremely high hours, around 1700-1800

Bravoits can happen for all Bravos (1, 2 or 3). The transom assembly is where it takes place, the drive has no issue. This is more salt water then fresh.

Just info, but the all Bravo's use the same upper half, only the bottom half changes to make it a 1, 2 or 3
