290BR engine choice

HI all,

New to the forum. I boat on Lake Winnipesauke in NH. I currently have a Cobalt Bowrider that I'm starting to look at upgrading to a larger boat. I've always respected Formula as a worthy choice to Cobalt for larger bowriders. I really like the 290 layout and overall design more than Cobalts of similar size.

My question is, which twin engine package would you opt for? I'm not too concerned with efficiency. They always say go for the biggest engine you can afford, so that would suggest the Ilmor 365. I'm curious if anyone has experience with these engines and how they perform compared to the Merc or Volvo 350s. Does Formula publish a prop chart demonstrating hole shot and top end for each engine offered? It's too bad it can't be optioned with twin Volvo 6.2 380. That's a heckuva an engine on the boats I've used with them.

Never heard anyone complain about having to much HP, only when there wasn't enough

Formula's are heavy boats so get the biggest motors

All good motors but the issue I stick with Merc is because you can always find a certified tech nearby. Merc parts are high but not as high as VP, don't know much about parts for Ilmore
