Hello,

I am in the market to purchase a Fastec 312 or 303 but not sure if my tow vehicle will have issues. I think it exceeds the tow capacity, which is I think 6600 lbs ( boat is about 7500 lbs). However, I was going to install better brake pads and a Air Suspension.

I would like to know if any of you are doing this already and your experience.

Thanks

Trailer towing is a subject where you will get different answers.
Best advise I can offer is do not exceed the vehicle manufacturers specifications. We all have done things that never came back to haunt us, but can you imagine towing a boat too heavy for the tow vehicle, and you cannot stop fast enough? Worst case would be if someone lost a life. You would be negligent for knowingly operating a vehicle not designed to tow that kind of weight.
Please use the correct tow vehicle and never look back.

I have owned a 312 and currently own a 353, and have always towed with a 3/4 ton vehicle primarily for the extra braking and towing capacity. An F-150 is not enough vehicle in my opinion and yes, you would be exceeding its towing capacity. Additionally, most yacht insurance companies have exclusions in their policies that will deny coverage for damage to the boat if being trailered by a vehicle without adequate towing capacity (boat and trailer combined). Not to mention the issues that will arise from causing damage or injury to another party by overloading the tow vehicle.
Boating is to be enjoyed and a serious towing accident will ruin that. I suggest including a new truck in your boat purchase.
