2001 260SS with a 496 MAG with Bravo 3 Performance Issue

This is my first post so I thought all you seasoned SS owners can help out. I sea trialed the above subject boat today and it could only get up 39MPH on the GPS at 4900RPMs. Load was 4 adults, 1/2 tank of fuel, no water or waste. It seemed to run a bit rough/vibration. Wondering if it is old fuel? Needing a tune-up? It was the first time out after winter storage. Any thoughts on this? Things to check? Very clean boat with only 224 hrs on the engine.

Thanks all.

The max WOT RPM is 5200 so it was pretty close to it. Do agree boat should do better then that so wonder if there is something sly going on. Going from 4900 to 5200 is only a couple more MPH. Boat test should be at least 50

If boat was doing 39MPH and turning 3900RPM then motor is the issue or to much prop pitch. Doing what this boat is doing has me thinking the dealer/owner dropped the pitch way down hoping no one would notice the motor has problems. Would need to connect a scanner

Thanks for your response! Mush appreciated! I will have a full survey report within the next few days and will share. The surveyor did do a diag on the ECU with his scanner. I believe the prop is a 22P. Any idea what should be on the boat to get it up to 50mph?

What does the bottom look like? I agree with above, if that motor can't spin the 22p up to redline, then it will never spin a 26 pitch to full speed.

I had two 260 SS's, one a 2001 (new) and the other a 2009 with 92 hours on it. Both boats with 496 (Merc then Volvo). My red lines @ 4,600 rpm. The first boat was showing that speed with over 1,000 hours on the boat.

First one did 52 or 53 MPH on the GPS chartplotter. Second one shows 51 or 52. They were (and are) both trailer boats so clean hull. I don't know the prop pitch but I think you are correct in thinking it should go faster.

Good luck getting it straightened out.
